I had a colleague who always complained boring of life. Every day when it’s time off work, she just said : “Life is so boring, what should I do. She just complained how it would be useful for her to be like others who learned yoga, learned baking and painting at their spare time.”
Another colleague Lily went to take part in MBA classes and he just cursed her secretly : “we don’t need such an high education background. It’s so stupid to spend so much money to gain a better education background.” Later when Lily got her MBA certificate and resigned to further her education abroad, that colleague just laughed at Lily : “How wonderful it is to stay in a state-owned enterprise. Lily has just become silly by reading so much.”
Several years later, Lily had become a financial manager in a world top 500 company and her salary was 20 times of that colleague. I think a saying as this makes sense: “if people around you are just complaining of others’ making big changes such as learning something irrelevant to your career in your spare time or objecting others’ choice of going abroad. You need to make some progress as people around are are still in a low position because only people of low position like saying something bad like complaining others.”
It’s not that learning something new is not useful but you haven’t seen a bigger world. It’s not that others are pretending to be better but that you’re still in a low position.
A frog in the well will only see the space above the well and don’t know the color of sky in other places. They don’t know that people can choose different ways of life and people have different values. Would people who had seen sea be indulged in a small pond?
Once upon a time I attended a party where people all communicated in English. In the round of play games the host had chosen me. What made me embarrassed was that I just didn’t understand explanation of the host except of allowing me to make an introduction of myself. Could I take out an English paper to show my ability in doing papers by then?
The bigger world you experience, the more excellent people you will meet and the more efforts you want to make. People of high social position will not feel boring of life and they will not feel it not useful to learn something new.
By then I was learning finance and I took part in some ancient building lesson. Actually I was afraid of cursing by my tutor for my lack of concentration on my major. What makes me unexpected was that my tutor encouraged me to learn as he thought there was something agreeable in both finance and ancient architecture because there were both beautiful curves in the two fields.
Wow! My tutor is a person who had really seen a bigger world!
