You need to do this consciously at first. Whenever you think of something that brings you down, stop yourself. Then look around you. Observe everything. Notice everything. Go for a walk in the garden or in the park and take note of everything that you see. Whenever your mind wanders back to your problems, stop yourself. Look at things that inspire you because these will help you to get out of the funk and get into thinking in a positive manner. You may wander at first whether this is doing you any good but gradually what you find is that you are more prone to actually noticing things and less prone to think in a negative way. I think in this way all of the time now you’ll find that you don’t have room for negativity. Things that you can observe:


*Sit in a cafe and watch people - see how they interact

*Sit in a park and feed the ducks

*Sit in the park and watch kids playing

*Listen to their laughter

*Look at plants and watch them as they change through the seasons

*Look out of your window and look beyond the rainy weather

*Look at the cloud formations


Although these things sound rather dull, they are not. You find that you are more likely to notice positive things and to use these to lift your mood. Even though the skies are gray outside, there is always something new to notice and your thought processes don’t have to bleak. For example, if you feed the birds in the back yard, you can watch them and work out which ones come back every year. You may even be able to work out where they are nesting and share it with your kids. You can collect the nature of debris and use it for creative crafts like making Christmas decorations given by the bounty of the Earth rather than ones that cost you a fortune in the stores. They will be unique and the creative task will keep you focused.
