Are you a person good at cherishing integrity and value integrity more than other things such as ease and comfort? Integrity is often regarded as honesty, truthfulness or accuracy of one’s actions. To maintain integrity you need to maintain honesty, trustfulness and accuracy of your actions. However, you have to make great efforts to achieve this goal. Any failure in maintaining honesty, trustfulness and accuracy of both your words and actions may result in loss of your integrity. In other words, integrity can be lost in exchange for ease and comfort.
Jack was a relative of my husband and mine. He is an extrovert person good at showing himself and talking about other’s business. He is really good at jobs requiring showing and talking abilities such as salesman. However, the more you know about him, the more weakness I find on him. As he is several years younger and we take care of him when he starts his career life in our city. With time passing by, he behaves relatively well in his job and earns more money. He always shows off how well he performs on his sales. Meanwhile, he also boasted about benefits of his position. We’re glad that he becomes more independent.
However, one day when we need to make a registration in one of our local offical agencies, some important documents are required. It happens that Jack has talked to my husband days ago that he would be back home soon and my husband asked for his help to take the document for us. He had promised. To our disappointment, he did went home but didn’t bring us the document as promised because he explained that he just didn’t have time.
Jack has just failed in maintaining his integrity for his dishonesty, untrustfulness and inaccuracy of his words, because he just lost his integrity in exchange of his ease and comfort. And he didn’t show any appreciation to people who really are kind to him. As my husband has said,his impression to us had greatly discounted with his inconsistency in his words and actions, Maybe we’ll never trust him anymore and our mutual gatherings will be less.
As time passes by, we’ll just find that people who can maintain their integrity well will be less and less. And true friendship is really valuable.
