You Can Even Practice Mindfulness When Eating

How many times have you eaten food so quickly you can’t even say what it was that you ate if asked later in the day? So many of us do this because our lives are too stressed out to actually enjoy the food we eat. Did you know that in countries in Europe such as France, they celebrate their food by having a two hour lunch period when everything closes because enjoying food is important to the peoples? Yes, they have to work later to make up for the two hour lunch, but it’s their way of life. The point here is that people who take their time with their eating get more out of it. Their digestive system is better able to cope with the food that has been eaten and the taste buds positively love the different tastes and textures.

If you don’t believe me, try it the next time that you have something to eat. Take a square of chocolate - nice dark chocolate rich in magnesium - and place it onto the tongue. Don’t bite it. Allow the taste buds to feed the chocolate melting on the tongue and savor all the flavor of the food.

Now try it with a salad. Make sure that your food is varied in texture and as you take each bite, taste the texture, taste the flavor and concentrate on it completely so that there is no room for any other kind of thought. Mindfulness acts in everything that you do but eating mindfully is a treat for the taste buds and also means that you chew your food properly and that’s always going to help you to feel healthier.
