Depressed people make all kinds of excuses for their lack of sleep but it’s pretty obvious that if you don’t have a correct routine to your life due to depression that you are not likely to get to sleep easily. Your life needs some kind of routine. As we have stated before, that inlcudes eating at the right times, exercising sufficiently and letting your body get enough rest. Good sleep is important for various reasons.


Benefits of sleep

Did you know that during the hours of sleeping, your body is allowing the internal healing mechanisms to work? It is, but it isn’t just your body that releases all of the healing mechanisms. Your mind does as well. You don’t often tap into your subconscious. That’s because you are too busy thinking. Many people take up yoga to tap into the subconscious and let it heal them mentally so that they are able to move forward from stressful lives. Sleep is that time when your mind needs to be at rest and when your subconscious can do a lot of the work for you. Have you ever woken up with wonderful idea? The reason for this is that your subconscious has been allowed the privilege of looking at the problems you have had during the day and is better equipped to deal with them. During the hours of sleep, it did just this and you woke up with a wonderful idea.


Insufficient sleep annoys you

You can see that sleep has many benefits. People who deprive themselves of proper quality sleep will feel tired, lethargic, lacking in energy, unable to concentrate and will likely be bad tempered. If you are already depressed, the depression can get deeper and that’s not helping you to help yourself.


Thus, bedtime has to be a time that you respect. It’s not as simple as saying “I will go to bed at nine” because life isn’t that simple. If you are not tired, you won’t sleep. If you lie awake with thoughts in your mind, you are unlikely to resolve anything at all and will feel even more tired than you did when you went to bed, so what is the answer? The answer is simple. You need to prepare for bedtime.
